The Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) has clocked 15.5% growth in revenue at R20,730 crore in 2014-15 as compared to R18,000 crore achieved in the previous fiscal. The export figure has been arrived after consolidating the knitwear exports data collected from 38 banks located in Tirupur and surrounding areas.
“We were expecting to achieve R21,000 crore, however, fell marginally in our target to end at R20,730 crore,” said A Sakthivel, president, TEA. After reaching R18,000 crore in 2013–14, the association had set a target to double the export to R36,000 crore over next three years (i.e by 2016-17). “We hope we are on track.”
Meanwhile, on behalf of Indian Skills Mission, a high-level trade delegation comprising chairmen and CEOs from 15 skill sector councils, including TEA president as chairman of Apparel, Made ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council is en route to Canada to sign MoUs with their counterparts to enrich the Indian expertise in the apparel sector.
