GUWAHATI: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) said victory of four of its candidates in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election would silence its detractors who accuse the party of only championing the cause of Muslims.
AIUDF general secretary Aminul Islam said in a press conference here that out of four candidates two belonged to the Bodo community and the two others were Muslim.

“Of our two victorious Bodo candidates, one is Hindu and the other Christian. Our detractors often say that AIUDF is a communal party and only champions the cause of Muslims. Our performance in the BTC polls should silence such people. The victory of our candidates from diverse religious and social backgrounds amply demonstrated that AIUDF is an inclusive party,” Islam said.
Islam said winning four seats in its maiden contest in the BTC polls was a big achievement for AIUDF. He added that the BTC election was a toughly contested poll with high-pitch campaigning by Congress and BJP.
“We will now build on our performance in the BTC polls. The victory of our candidates from different religious and community backgrounds have provided us an opportunity to build a strong inter-community relationship in BTC for permanent peace in the area,” Islam said. “The mandate given to us is also a mandate for bringing permanent peace to BTC. AIUDF will embark on reaching out to diverse communities living in BTC. Development will come when there is peace,” Islam added.
