CHANDIGARH: The iconic Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Mohali has been renamed as PCA IS Bindra Stadium after its first and long-serving president Inderjit Singh Bindra, who retired from cricket administration last year after being involved with the association for 36 years.
The decision to rechristen the stadium was taken in an extraordinary general body meeting (EGM) of the association.
Informing about this change, PCA honorary secretary M P Pandove felt that it was the least the association could have done for its former president.
"The decision was taken unanimously by the association. The stadium was Bindra's brainchild and the modern facilities that we see nowadays were possible due to his earnest efforts. This was the least we could do for him," Pandove said.
PCA joint secretary G S Walia also fondly remembered Bindra's role as a cricket administrator. "We have so many fond memories, and under him PCA and Indian cricket went from strength to strength. Among the memorable events will be the 2011 World Cup semifinal played at Mohali between India and Pakistan and watched by a galaxy of leaders of the two nations, including its prime ministers," Walia said.
Bindra, meanwhile, thanked all the members for their gesture and assured his best for the PCA, whenever required.
