Vivaah ranks quite high among Shahid Kapoor's several hits. It's probably the only successful film in recent years to revolve around the concept of arranged marriage.
Taking a leaf out of his hit film, Shahid is gearing up to tie the knot with Mira Rajput, 20, in a match fixed by his parents. Though arranged marriages are not alien to our culture, the concept seems outdated, at least in cities and especially in tinsel town where love marriages are the norm.
So, obviously, Shahid's shaadi is big news. He's been linked to actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan and Sonakshi Sinha, but found his soul mate from outside the industry. What's more, the match has been fixed by his parents, or rather his father Pankaj Kapur. The family is a follower of Radha Soami Satsang Beas, a religious group and that's where Kapur senior met Mira. His family decided she was the right girl for Shahid and after a couple of meetings, even the actor who always maintained that he wouldn't want to marry an actress, found what he wanted in Mira. And if reports are to be believed, he will have his bride beside him this June.
Madhuri Dixit
Who and when the diva of Indian screen, Madhuri, would marry was something the entire nation waited to know with bated breath. But this Marathi mulgi, who had hosted a show Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai that fixed marriages on national television, surprised many when she herself took the traditional route. It was when Madhuri visited her LA-based brother Ajit, that he asked her to meet somebody. And that was none other Dr Sriram Nene. The two met, liked each other and informed their parents about their decision to marry. As simple and ordinary as that! Just like that, the girl who had millions of dils going dhak dhak for her lost hers to a heart surgeon. The couple is married for over 15 years and are proud parents of two sons Erin and Ryan.
Karishma Kapoor
The blue-eyed Kapoor girl hasn't had it easy when it comes to affairs of the heart. She fell in love with Abhishek Bachchan and was even officially engaged to him. However, four months after the announcement they broke-off. Soon after, Karisma got married to the wealthy Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur, a match fixed by her mother Babita. Unfortunately for her, even that did not work out and currently is embroiled in a legal tussle for a divorce from her husband. They have two children Samaira and Kiaan.
Vivek Oberoi
He dated some of the most beautiful Bolly actresses, but when he chose to marry, it was to a simple girl who did not belong to the industry. And that too, arranged by his mother Yashodhara. Priyanka Alva's mother, well-known dancer Nandini and Yashodhara were friends and it was the latter who suggested that Vivek at least meet Priyanka once. The actor was not exactly thrilled, but since he had promised his mother he went ahead and met her. He was in London and Priyanka was in Florence then. It didn't take long for Vivek to decide she was the girl for him and got married within four months of meeting her! The couple is happily married with one son Vivaan Veer and are expecting their second child.
Govinda
The masses ka hero worked with the most glamourous actor through the years. But when it came to his wedding, this maa ka laadla stuck by her choice. Sunita was his uncle's wife's sister, who Govinda had met a couple of times. Though the two knew each other it was only when Govinda's mother put forth the idea of marriage, did the actor go ahead. The couple has faced several ups and downs including the various link-ups of Govinda and his troubled political outing. However, Sunita stayed by her husband's side and today their daughter Narmmaada is all set to make her film debut, while son Yashvardhan is pursuing his studies abroad.

Nikitin Dheer-Kratika Sengar
He is a Bolly actor and she is a TV actress. Nikitin's dad played matchmaker. She was shooting for Dheer Sr's directorial debut My Father My Godfather, when he saw her as his bahu. Pankaj approached Kratika's parents after which Nikitin and she met, liked each other and the shaadi was fixed. The couple tied the knot last September.
Sushil Kumar
The two-time Olympic champion wrester married his coach Satpal's daughter Savi, but surprisingly, it's not a love marriage. It was a match arranged by Sushil's parents and his wrestling guru. In fact, in an interview he is quoted saying, he hadn't even seen Savi properly earlier! "I gave my consent because they know what's best for us," he'd said. He now considers Savi his lucky charm and they have just become proud parents of twins.
Suresh Raina
Though the cricketer and his wife Priyanka knew each other from childhood as they were family friends, they hadn't kept in touch in recent years. Suresh ihas said that he had met Priyanka for five minutes at the Delhi airport while en route to Bangalore a few years ago. However, the marriage was formalised recently when Suresh was in Australia playing for the World Cup. "Mom called me and told me that my marriage has been fixed with one of my childhood friends." Truly a mama's boy, Suresh got married to Priyanka early this month.
