One Dead After Lamborghini Crash At Richard Petty Driving Experience At Walt Disney World

Tragic news out of Orlando today as one person was killed in a fatal crash on Sunday afternoon at the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World.

Per My News 13, a 36-year-old man was killed at the speedway on Disney property after a Lamborghini crashed into the guardrail. The man that was killed has not yet been identified and he was not driving, but a passenger in the vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the situation and looking more into what caused the fatal crash.

The driver of the car “failed to maneuver the vehicle through the course,” said Sgt. Kim Montes, of the Florida Highway Patrol.

After that, the driver of the Lamborghini lost control of the car and the right side of the vehicle struck the guardrail on the course. The male passenger, who is from Davenport, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was taken from the Richard Petty Driving Experience speedway to Celebration Hospital. He was taken there with just minor injuries. His name was not released, either.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that the accident took place around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, and that is per the report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

It was just a few months ago that Disney revealed the Richard Petty Driving Experience would be closing on June 28 of this year. It has been open on Walt Disney World property since 1997, and is now looking to open a location somewhere else in Orlando.

Disney is planning to possibly make some sort of transportation and parking advancements where the speedway now stands.

It was originally just for a NASCAR experience, but that changed four years ago. That was when Petty Holdings revealed an Exotic Driving Experience which would allow guests to be passengers in or drive Lamborghinis, Porsches, and Ferarris around the track.

About 70 people currently work at the speedway, and it is possible they will stay with the company, but likely not with Disney.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash that happened at the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World, and no further information had been released as of Sunday evening. More info is likely to come out as the officers continue to seek more on what exactly happen.

No charges have yet been filed.
