The decision of Central Government to implement Sagar Mala project for improving connectivity and reviving Sethusamudram project will help DCI stand in good stead.
The Ministry of Shipping has already taken in-principle decision to release Rs.302 crore towards outstanding works it had undertaken towards Sethusamudram project before it was discontinued. Its revival by the NDA Government has brought cheers among well-wishers of DCI.
The decision to take up inland waterways in a big way will encourage coastal shipping. “We will also offer our expertise in inland dredging. Port-led development under Sagar Mala and the decision to develop double cargo handling capacity by Indian ports from 900 million tonne per annum in next five years will throw up lot of opportunities to us,” DCI Chairman and Managing Director Rajesh Tripathi told The Hindu .
