According to the newspaper, the 32-year-old Afghan national said he had been imprisoned for four years in the Afghan city of Kandahar on murder charges.
The Afghan citizen said his father had been forced to join the Taliban as a commander. Thus, the man started to work as a Taliban bodyguard as he was concerned about his father's safety within the organization.
The detained Afghan citizen was tortured during his four-year imprisonment in Kandahar, as stated in the court documents, and then fled to Britain.
He claimed asylum in the country but Home Secretary Theresa May rejected his case. However, immigration courts have overturned the secretary's decision and let him stay in the United Kingdom since he was entitled to asylum under the European Convention on Human Rights.
The Taliban is a radical Islamist insurgent group operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan, known to be behind numerous attacks on authorities and civilians. In 2014, the militants intensified their activity in Afghanistan amid the withdrawal of international troops from the country.
