Jammu and Kashmir

As many as 3,421 persons have been issued challans in Jammu and Kashmir during the last two years, for using phones while driving, the government said last week.

Punjab

Punjab government will provide water connections and toilets to every rural household in the next six years, with the World Bank sanctioning a loan of Rs 1,540 crore for water and sanitation facilities in the state.

Uttar Pradesh

Increasing monkey menace in Varanasi have been often disrupting wi-fi service causing problems to the locals and tourists here. A senior engineer with Telecommunication Department, A.P Srivastav, said they have mooted a plan to lay optical cable wire underground to deal with the situation.

Haryana

The Haryana government last week said the construction of 'vyamshalas' and 'yogshalas' under its 'Khelega Haryana-Badega Haryana' awareness campaign will be initiated soon in 50 villages of the state.

Rajasthan

Jodhpur National University awarded 25,003 fake degrees and marksheets to students since 2009 and a Special Operation Group of Rajasthan police was probing the case, Rajasthan government informed the state Assembly. The University has awarded 38,000 degrees and marksheets to students of which 25,003 were found fake, Education Minister K C Saraf said in the House.

Jharkhand

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das last week said that the council to prepare that would prepare development model for the state will be set up by the fist week of May.

Gujarat

People of Gujarat might have to compulsorily exercise their franchise or face penal action in local body polls to be held in October, as the state government is likely to notify rules for the controversial provision before those elections. A committee formed by the Gujarat government to frame rules for compulsory voting, has hurriedly invited suggestions from the people.

Madhya Pradesh

Over a dozen Youth Congress workers were on Saturday detained for trying to show black flags to Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, alleging that she was not working for the development of her Lok Sabha constituency Raisen.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant last week said that Mumbai will have additional chemotherapy centres and a shelter home for the relatives of cancer patients admitted at the Tata Memorial Hospital.

"The government has planned two more chemotherapy centres -- one at Cama and Albless Hospital and another in Mumbai suburbs. A cancer research centre would also be established at the Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital," Sawant said in the Legislative Assembly

Goa

Goa is considering installing a monitoring system which will track suspicious activities off shore including possible terrorist landings and under sea movements, a government report said.

Karnataka

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will no longer be charged only by the enthusiasm of cricket fans; a rooftop solar plant will ensure a bright and sunny pitch to the cricketing nucleus of the State. A 400 kW rooftop solar power plant was successfully installed at the stadium on Thursday.

Kerala

A Vedic university, giving thrust to the studies of ancient traditions of spirituality especially Veda and Tantra, is likely to come up in Kerala soon. The Travancore Dewaswom Board, which manages a number of shrines in south Kerala, is actively considering this, to give the younger generation a platform to study the country's rich spiritual tradition and heritage.

Puducherry

The Puducherry government dispensed with the system of gazetted officers attesting copies of certificates of candidates applying for admission to educational institutions or for jobs in government departments, PSUs or local and autonomous bodies, according to a PTI report. The report added that an order of the Administrative Reforms wing in the Chief Secretariat here said that all government departments and undertakings should accept self attestation of certificates by candidates.

Tamil Nadu

Panchayat Union Middle School at Keechankuppam village in Nagapattinam district, which was ravaged by the tsunami on December 26,2004, has become Tamil Nadu’s first government school to get a ‘smart class’ with internet facility.

Andhra Pradesh

The NDA Government will help Andhra Pradesh in catering to its development needs and efforts in industrialisation, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said last week.

Telangana

Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao said he will extend full cooperation in making Karimnagar a ‘smart city’. He said that the bridge at Kaleshwaram in the district would be completed by August this year and it will facilitate transportation between the city and Maharashtra.

Odisha

In view of the vast forest cover in Odisha, police officers and personnel from various parts of the state are now being sensitised with the various wildlife laws in order that they are able to probe related crimes effectively.

Chhattisgarh

According to a government statistics, as many as 1,00,000 villagers have migrated from Chhattisgarh villages in the last three years, seeking better opportunities in cities.

Tripura

To ensure trouble-free elections to the Tripura tribal autonomous council and in view of the current political turmoil in neighbouring Bangladesh, security along the India-Bangladesh border and inter-state border with Assam and Mizoram would be further tightened, an official said in Agartala on Friday. 

Sikkim

Sikkim government is envisaging to develop the state as a 'smart state' through its various e-governance initiatives which remain a key focus area for Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, a CMO official said.

Bihar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said the special assistance to the state was “a question of its welfare and right”, and his officers were following the issue after he submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.

Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh has re-affirmed the need to have an independent High Court of the state. The Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development informed that the required land for setting up of Permanent High Court has already been identified.

West Bengal

A digital database for all kinds of information on the Dutch settlement in West Bengal (17th to 19th century) that connects the past with the present through satellite-images is now available at one's fingertips.  The interactive website takes back one to 1607 when Dutch began settling in Chinsurah, a suburb less than 50 km from Kolkata, on the banks of the Hooghly river. 

Manipur

Intelligence Bureau special director RN Ravi arrived in Manipur to take stock of the security situation along the Indo-Myanmar border. The visit is significant as Ravi, who is also the Government of India interlocutor to the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks, has reportedly been directed to bring a lasting solution to the 18-year-old political dialogue with the NSCN-IM. 

Uttarakhand

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought closure of rafting activities in Rishikesh due to environmental threats and pollution risks for river Ganga in Uttarakhand.

Himachal Pradesh

The damage to agricultural and horticulture crops due to unprecedented rains and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh in the last seven months is estimated at Rs.48 crore, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said on Tuesday.

Mizoram

President Pranab Mukherjee arrived at Aizawl on Thursday afternoon for a two-day tour to the north-eastern state of Mizoram. He was the chief guest at the 10th annual convocation of Mizoram University on Friday. 

Nagaland

Nagaland will be connected with Delhi from April 15 through a daily flight via Kolkata, Minister for Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said on Thursday.

Meghalaya

In a bid to bring North-eastern India closer to the rest of the country, a day-long Northeast festival, featuring food, costumes, music and dance among other features was organised by Meghalaya government in New Delhi on April 11.

Chandigarh

A surprise check at various departments of the Punjab secretariat on Thursday found at least 119 officials “absent”, a state government spokesman said, according to an IANS report. The checking was done by a team of officials deputed by state Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal, the report added. Taking strong note of the absenteeism, Kaushal directed administrative secretaries of each department to seek explanation from the erring officials and ensure discipline, the report said.   

Delhi

The National Green Tribunal banned all diesel vehicles over ten years old from plying on Delhi roads. A bench that passed the order observed that countries like Denmark, Brazil, China and Sri Lanka are in the process of banning diesel vehicles.
