DM issues directions for resolution of Tibetan refugees’ problems

LEH, Apr 11: To resolve the grievances of Tibetan refugees living in Leh, District Magistrate Saugat Biswas today convened a meeting in which the senior officers of district administration, BSNL and the Tibetan representatives headed by Chief Representative Officer Dhondup Tashi participated.
Giving a patient hearing to the issues of Tibetan people, DM directed Tehsildar Gh Qadir to start the demarcation of residential areas in Tibetan Refugee Camps and try to finish the same in a month’s time. He was also directed to work for issuance of land survey number to the Tibetan refugees at the earliest.
Regarding completion of Abi-Irrigation canal in Tibetan refugee areas located at Aagling, AEE Irrigation and Flood Control Department Tashi Dorjey updated the District Magistrate on the project. In connection with the fencing of grazing land at Puga and Semad by the Sheep Husbandry Department, the CRO expressed concern over the insecurity among the Tibetan refugees regarding limited grazing area for their livestock.
Dr Tsewang Morup, Incharge DSHO cleared the air by saying that the whole fencing plan is being lifted from these areas to Anley village.
About tele-connectivity problems especially in Tibetan refugees’ areas like Kagjung, Chumur, Samad and Sumdo, Mr Biswas directed BSNL officers to come up with a feasible solution in this regard. He also assured that the matter would be taken up with the BSNL for installation of subsidized DSPT (satellite phone service) for the region.
Mr Biswas also issued directions vis-à-vis drinking water problems in Tibetan settlements and non-availability of garbage collection facility.
Earlier, giving the reference of the visit of the Joint Secretary KK Pathak (Ministry of Home Affairs) and Vice Chairman CRTC, Kalon Dolma Gyari to Sonamling Tibetan Settlement Choglamsar, Agling areas and Sonamling nomadic Changthang areas in the month of November 2014, CRO Dhondup Tashi putforth eleven point issues and problems of Tibetans living in Leh, Changthang, Choglamsar and Agling areas.
Administrative head of the departments and representatives of various Tibetan Camps and institutes were also present in the meeting.
