Public Works Department cleared the encroachments across the supply channel in Marudhaiyaru sub-basin near Thuraimangalam near here on Saturday.
An official release here said the encroachment, measuring about three-fourths of an acre, had been used for digging a well and for constructing a tiled house.
The encroachments were cleared amidst tight police security in the presence of Revenue and Public Works Department officials. The release warned them that stern action would be taken against similar encroachments in the district in course of time.
