Five students injured as school bus plunges into canal

Six persons including five students suffered injuries when a school bus of the Care and Share NGO Home plunged into a canal at Buddavaram village on Saturday.

As many as 30 students were travelling in the bus, when the mishap occurred. The injured were being treated in a dispensary run by the NGO home and their condition was stable, said Care and Share Senior Assistant Director J.L.V. Prasad.

The mishap occurred when the driver lost his control over the vehicle, owing to some technical problem, and the vehicle plunged into the canal. The students were going to the school when the accident took place. The injured have been identified as Swapna (8{+t}{+h}standard) Alekya (7th ), Sai Maha Lakshmi (6{+t}{+h}), Sudhir (3{+r}{+d}) and Karthik (2{+n}{+d}) . School bus attender, Ravamma, was also among the injured, said Mr. Prasad. The Gannavaram police registered a case and took up investigation. Locals said that a major mishap was averted as there was no water in the canal.
