Noon prayers at Mecca Masjid in Old City passed off peacefully on Friday amidst deployment of huge contingents of police, barring stray incidents of stone-pelting by some youngsters.

A police vehicle was damaged and while stones were hurled targeting policemen near Hotel Volta and fire station in Moghalpura police station area. They were, however, dispersed by police using mild force. Three separate cases were registered in this regard.

“Persons who indulged in stone-pelting were identified. They will be caught,” South zone DCP V. Satyanarayana said. The DCP and Hyderabad Police Additional Commissioner Anjani Kumar extensively patrolled the areas around Mecca Masjid and Charminar wearing riot gear from the morning.

Anticipating protest demonstrations by some groups on Friday over the killing of five under trial prisoners four days ago at Warangal-Nalgonda border, police made the elaborate security arrangements. Rapid Action Force teams of the Central Reserve Police Force, including woman constables, stood guard on all sides near Charminar.

Though a handful of Namajis raised slogans creating tense moments for a few seconds, all others walked off peacefully after finishing the noon prayers.
