Around 3,000 cases settled in a day at Nat’l Lok Adalat

Over 17,000 cases were disposed of at a special drive and the National Lok Adalat organized by the National Legal Services Authority at 12 courts across the district on Friday and Saturday respectively.

THANE: Over 17,000 cases were disposed of at a special drive and the National Lok Adalat organized by the National Legal Services Authority at 12 courts across the district on Friday and Saturday respectively.
Around 2,959 cases were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat, while the rest were settled when the special drive was undertaken. As many as 3,204 cases, including pre-litigation and pending cases, were settled at the Thane court over the period of two days.

“A special drive was conducted on Friday to dispose of old cases, followed by the National Lok Adalat, in which matrimonial disputes, accident claims, land reference cases, labour and industrial disputes, civil cases, and compoundable criminal cases were settled,” said Ratnakar Salgaonkar, secretary, district legal services authority.
Pre-litigation compoundable criminal cases, including matters related to credit card claims, MSEB bill disputes, disputes of bills of various telecom and cellular companies, were also tabled, added Salgaonkar.
Justice N M Jamdar, of Bombay high court was the chief guest at the National Lok Adalat in Thane court. R R Gandhi, principle district judge monitored the programme. While 661 cases were settled at the Lok Adalat, 2,543 cases were resolved at the special drive.
