The “Street of Flowers” theme will include the installation of beautiful real and artificial flowers in public domain spaces along Main Street along with flowery posters and window displays transforming the appearance of participating businesses.
The promotion will culminate on Thursday May 7 with the installation of special LED “flowering trees” in Cook Street Plaza which will glow into the night as part of a special late night shopping experience.
“The weeks leading up to Mothers Day are one of the busiest times of the year for our local business operators,” mayor Maree Statham said.
“This promotion is designed to draw people into Lithgow’s town centre to enjoy the flowery displays and take advantage of the promotions being offered by individual businesses.
“I urge everyone to shop local and support our economy where they can.”
The shop local promotion will be supported through mainstream media advertising as well as utilising the new
“Shop Lithgow” webpage www.shoplithgow.com.au being developed through the Lithgow Business Networking Group.
“Council has also created a special Mothers Day 15 Street of Flowers facebook event page which can be accessed via the Revitalising Lithgow Town Centre facebook page www.facebook.com/revitaliseLithgow where participating businesses can post their shop promotions and market to a large audience across the Central West and Blue Mountains,” Economic Development Officer Matt Brewster said.
Local creatives are also being urged to get involved in the project and contribute to the decoration of town centre public domain spaces and shopfronts with several already taking up the challenge.
Chalk art installations, giant flower public art works, and unique flower themed shop window displays are in preparation.
