Engineering student kidnaps minor to pay college fees

A 21-year old college student Hardeep Rajpara, was arrested for kidnapping an 8-year-old boy from Kosamba village to pay his fees from the ransom money.

A 21-year old college student Hardeep Rajpara, was arrested for kidnapping an 8-year-old boy from Kosamba village to pay his fees from the ransom money.

The boy who does a diploma in engineering, was due to pay his fees of Rs 25,000 but got greedy and placed a ransom demand of Rs 5 lakh from a construction businessman whom he knew, and whose son he kidnapped.

Krupesh Maru (8), a resident of Vijay Estate in Tarsadi village in Kosamba taluka of Surat district, who studies in Grade II, was was returning home from M M Karadia School where he studies, alongwith his twin sister Krupa (8), Thursday afternoon, when Rajpara, riding a motorbike wearing a helmet, stopped and asked the boy to sit on his bike.

Krupa returned home and told her mother what had happened who called up the father Mahesh Maru. The couple searched the streets to find their son and finally lodged a complaint at the Kosamba police station. Maru runs construction business in Kosamba and Kim villages.

Meanwhile, Rajpara called up Mahesh on his mobile phone and demanded a ransom of Rs five lakh as ransom for safe release of his son. A shocked Mahesh told the police about the call and the ransom demand made in Hindi. The police traced the call to a PCO in Bharuch.

The kidnapper called again in the evening and asked to keep the money ready and reach Borbhata village in Ankleshwar taluka. Rajpara then met with an accident with two men riding a bike near the very village which was the rendezvous. The bikers noticed the young boy in school uniform seated on Rajpara’s bike with his identity card hanging around his neck. As people gathered on account of the accident, Rajpara failed to explain who the boy was, and some one in the public called his father from the number on the identity card. Mahesh then told the caller that his son was kidnapped.

The public then caught hold of Rajpara and beat him up and called the police.

Surat district local crime branch with Kosamba police and Mahesh Maru who was close to Borbhata village reached the spot and caught hold of the kidnapper. Mahesh took custody of Krupesh and immediately called up his wife Varsha and gave her the news.

Kosamba police arrested Rajpara who confessed that he was studying in the first year of engineering in Dhanvantari Engineering College in Kim village, and had planned to kidnap Mahesh’s son to arrange for the fees. He had earlier been an employee at Mahesh’s site and knew him.

Kosamba police sub inspector Nandlal Prajapati said, “The accused Hardeep was earlier working at a construction side as labourer in marble fitting job alongwith his mother. Hardeep stays with his mother alone in the village. His mother Reshma does odd jobs like working in a house as maid or doing marble fitting jobs. Her husband had abandoned her. After finishing Grade 10 Hardeep quit studies and worked as marble fitter in a construction site. He had once worked with Mahesh’s construction site and since then he knew about him. One year ago, Hardeep took admission in Diploma in Civil Engineering at Dhanvantari engineering college. His fees was due in the college and he had no other source of income.”
