BHOPAL: Four days after a cop was mowed down by the sand mafia in Morena, the main accused was arrested from Rajasthan. Driver of the dumper, Tehsildar Singh, 29, was tracked down by police at his relative's place in Dholpur. Speaking to TOI, SP Morena, Navneet Bhasin, said, "He is being interrogated."
"During questioning, accused admitted he was driving the vehicle which ran over the constable Dharmendra Chouhan on Sunday.
Investigations will reveal more facts," said additional SP Raghuvansh Singh Bhadoria.
On Thursday, police also launched a probe into the role of other police officials, including Noorabad police station in charge, S D Mishra and others, who were in the team that confronted the sand mafia on April 5. Questions are being raised whether constable Chouhan's colleagues acted with alacrity to save his life. "Statements of police officials are being recorded. Special investigation team set up by the state government is also probing the incident," said Bhadoria. On Wednesday, owner of dumper, Ramlakhan Gurjar alias Bunty Gurjar, was arrested.
On April 5, constable Dharmendra Singh Chouhan, posted at Noorabad police station, spotted a sand-laden dumper parked in middle of the road in Dhanela village. When he asked the driver to give way, the accused tried to flee and then drove the heavy vehicle in reverse gear. The constable, who was standing behind, was crushed to death. Dharmendra, an ex armyman, was recruited in MP Police a year ago. His wife and two children live in Gwalior.
