Rangarajan is UoH Chancellor

Renowned economist and former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India C. Rangarajan has been appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad (UoH). He will be in office for three years.

The appointment was made by President Pranab Mukherjee in his capacity as the Visitor of the University. He is the 11{+t}{+h}Chancellor of UoH.

Dr. Rangarajan also served as the Governor of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh from November 1997 to January 2003, and is the former chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and the founding chairman of the CR Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. He served as the chairman of the 12{+t}{+h}Finance Commission.

Dr. Rangarajan, a student of National College (Tiruchirappalli) between 1947 and 1949, graduated from Loyola College. He later received his Ph.D in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1964. He taught at several institutions, including the University of Pennsylvania and IIM-A.

His textbook on Macro Economics was used in business management schools. In 2002, the Government of India conferred upon him the Padma Vibhushan.
