Mexican heavy metal sister act hoping to attend Berklee

Seeking to prove they can rock with the best of them, three sisters from Monterrey, Mexico, are crowd-sourcing funds so they can attend one of Berklee College of Music’s summer programs. Ranging in age from 10 to 15, Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra Villarreal make up the heavy-metal band the Warning, and they’re hoping their GoFundMe campaign will help them cover travel costs and tuition at the music school. The trio channels Axl Rose, Dee Snider, and Ozzy Osbourne, covering ’80s classics such as Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and AC/DC’s “Back in Black.” One of their YouTube videos, a cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” has more than 1 million views. In an interview for GoFundMe’s website, the sisters said they set their sights on Berklee after hearing about it from their music teacher. Daniela, the oldest Villarreal and the band’s lead singer-guitarist, said “It would be awesome to be in an environment where [people] understand how hard we work and how we love what we do.” Thirteen-year-old Paulina, the Warning’s drummer, added they want to learn from others who share their passion. So far, the sisters have garnered more than $22,000 on their GoFundMe page.
