AMRITSAR: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has demanded removal of BJP MLA Tara Singh from the post of chief of Takht Shri Hazoor Sahib Management Board. DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK has also written a letter to this regard to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Talking to TOI on Thursday, GK said that a non-Amritdhari (non-baptized) Sikh can't lead the management of the prestigious religious organization, which was one of the five temporal seats of the Sikhs.
The DSGMC president also alleged that Tara Singh didn't follow Sikh 'rehat maryada' (code of conduct).
"The All India Gurdwara Act has clearly laid procedure and requirements for a person to become member of the gurdwara management committee. So, how can a person heading the board of a temporal seat of the Sikh Panth npt follow it?" questioned GK, while adding that Tara Singh, in his public life, had not been following Sikh 'maryada.' "I have demanded from Maharashtra chief minister to review the decision and remove Tara Singh," he said.
He also blamed the Maharashtra government for allegedly robbing Sikhs of their rights. "It is strange that a person who doesn't follow Sikh 'maryada' has been made to head the management of sacred Takht Hazoor Sahib, a place where the 10th master of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh breathed his last," GK said.
He said he had asked Maharashtra CM to appoint someone who was acceptable to the Panth. "We need a person who is also a custodian of Sikh tenets and is committed towards spreading awareness about Gurmat and Sikhism. But the Maharashtra government seems to have taken this step as part of a well-orchestrated game plan. While ignoring Sikh sentiments, it appointed chief of Takht Shri Hazoor Sahib management board in a way the government appoints a party loyal as head of any of its corporations or commissions," he said.
