AHMEDABAD: A 70-year-old woman, Sankunta Sonagara, was attacked with a blunt weapon in broad daylight at her home in Meghaninagar and robbed of jewellery worth Rs 50,000 on Thursday afternoon.
Police sources said Songara was living alone as her husband had died five years ago. “She was looked after by relatives who live in the neighborhood,” said a police source.

Inspector of Meghaninagar police station R K Kumbharwada said Sonagara lives in a busy area, Kalapinagar Housing Society, in Mehghaninagar.
“At about 1 pm, some one entered the house and hit Sonagara on the head with a blunt weapon. The robber then pulled off her earrings, bangles and gold chain and fled. On hearing her cries, neighbors rushed in and shifted Sonagara to Civil Hospital,” added Kumbharwada.
Police officers said they suspect an insider hand in the incident. “Sonagara’s relatives visit her at home to give her food but she is normally alone in the house after noon. The attacker knew exactly when she was alone,” said Kumbharwada.
Police sources said it is nearly impossible for an outsider to execute such a robbery as the area is densely populated. “We recorded Sonagara dying declaration and are asking nearby shop owners if they saw somebody fleeing the house,” said a police source.
