Tihar prisoner ‘stabbed to death’

The attackers used spoons they had turned into weapons by sharpening them over a period of time to stab Ravinder. “Sharpened spoons were found from the possession of the accused, showing they might have planned the attack. The two rival groups had a scuffle a month ago,” police said.

Ravinder was stabbed multiple times before his mates came to his rescue. There are wardens and security guards deployed in the jail premises round the clock, but none heard Ravinder scream. The security later reached the spot only to find him in a pool of blood.

Police have registered a case of murder against the five prisoners and an investigation is on. The media officer at Tihar, Mukesh Prasad, did not respond to repeated calls.

While Ravinder’s mates claim the five accused came with an intention to kill him, as they had tried the same a month ago, members of the rival group claim otherwise, a source said. The accused told police they were provoked into a fight and were injured. The dead man’s supporters, however, claim the  rivals’ injuries were self-inflicted.
