4/11: Lakeside Music Fest tunes up in Goodyear

Special for The Republic
Scott Jeffers, the lead vocalist and violinist of Traveler, a Phoenix-based World Fusion band, performs at last year’s Lakeside Music Fest. This year’s festival features 13 new bands from Celtic rock to Bluegrass.

The free Goodyear Lakeside Music Fest at Estrella is noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Estrella Lakeside Amphitheatre, 10300 South Estrella Parkway.

Bring a blankets and lawn chairs, and maybe dancing shoes, as a variety of bands will perform.

In all, 13 Valley-based bands will play on two stages, including Backporch Bandits (Bluegrass), Kilted Spirit (Celtic rock), and the Knee-Deep Experience (funk and soul). The Agua Fria High School Jazz Band will perform on the second stage earlier in the day.

"It will be continuous entertainment and a great family-oriented festival for people of all ages," said Guylene Ozlanski, Goodyear's arts and culture coordinator. "All of the performers are new this year, and there also will be stilt walkers and jugglers on hand to engage the audience and entertain the kids."

For nearly 20 years, the West Valley Arts Council has partnered with the city to produce a spring music event. This year's festival includes an arts expo, a beer and wine garden and food vendors. Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord will announce winners of the spring Mayor Select Art Show.

Last year, more than 5,000 people attended.
