First Additional Sessions’ Judge Vishwanath B Suryavamshi on Thursday rejected bail plea of Banjara Gurupeeth seer Sardar Sevalal Sanganabasava Swami, accused in sexual assault case.

The presiding officer extended the judicial custody of Sevalal seer by a day and adjourned the hearing till Friday.

The police arrested the seer from a devotee’s house in the city and produced him before the court on Wednesday, a day after the court issued a non-bailable warrant.
The court remanded the seer to judicial custody and granted the bail to the mother of the seer, one of the accused in the case.

The seer was accused of having sex with a woman for eight years with a promise to marry her and later betraying her.

A city-based school teacher had lodged a complaint charging the seer of sexually assaulting her with Davangere women’s police station on June 26, 2013.

The complainant also charged the mother and the sister of the seer for aiding and abetting the key accused.
