THRISSUR: The vigilance inquiry commissioner and special judge, Thrissur, K Haripal has directed vigilance officials to conduct a preliminary inquiry against nine officials of Kalady Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University on charges of irregularities in various appointments.
The officials facing inquiry included vice-chancellor M C Dileep Kumar, registrar T P Ravindran and syndicate member MLA Sivadasan Nair.

The petitioner in the case alleged that the varsity has appointed a private secretary to the vice-chancellor, even though the post has not been approved by the government. Four library attendants have been appointed even before the varsity framed statues stipulating their qualifications, the petitioner K Satish Kumar alleged.
He also contended that the appointment of an associate professor in the university's social works department was against UGC norms.
The appointments were a misappropriation of powers vested in the three accused public servants, P Geofy George, the complainant's counsel argued.
Incidentally, judge Haripal had on Wednesday ordered a vigilance probe against the Calicut university vice-chancellor, pro vice-chancellor and the latter's personal assistant for allegedly conducting a special examination for BTech students of Nehru Engineering College, who had failed to clear the practical exams.
