Many of you might have played with toy robots. You might also have seen the animated movie “Robots” directed by Chris Wedge where the world is inhibited by anthropomorphic robots. And you can’t help but go awww when you see the cute little robot from the movie “Wall E” produced by Pixar Studios. If you’re into the real stuff rather than animation, the “Transformers” and “Terminator” movies would have definitely caught your imagination.
Multi-purpose marvels
Robot comes from the Czech word robota which means forced work or labour. However, today, a robot is understood to be a man-made machine that can perform tasks automatically or by remote control.
They have gradually become an integral part of our lives. From conducting surgical operations to playing football and cleaning beaches, these mechanical marvels do all this and more. Several different robots are used for various applications. They range from industrial robots, domestic or household robots, medical robots, hobby and competition robots to military and space robots. The fighter robot called Atom in Hugh Jackman’s movie “Real Steel” was a hobby and competition robot. The United States military uses thousands of robots, including Talon Bots, which aid it in several missions, including scouting for bombs. The Indian Army also uses robots, like the indigenously developed DRDO Daksh, for locating, handling and destroying hazardous objects safely.
