Surabhi theatre group presented some of its prime productions last week on the premises of Ravindra Bharati, under the aegis of Telangana Culture and Language Department. One of them was ‘Srikrishna Leelalu’ that opened with spectacular ‘Vaikuntham’ sequence to where Gods arrive and seek Lord Vishnu’s help to mitigate the problems created to them by demon king Kamsa.
Lord Vishnu tells them that he would take the avatara of Srikrishna as the son of Devaki and Vasudeva, to mitigate their problems.
This play penned by K. Subrahmanya Sastry was packed with many magical scenes that needed a lot of trick work and Surabhi people, experts in this art, packed the drama with the thrilling sequences.
R.Vasanta Rao as Kamsa, Padmaja as Narada, R. Ramprasad as Vasudeva, Sarvani as Yasoda, and child artistes Harshad, Ujwala, Tanuja, Lochana, Sailaja, and Geetha playing Krishna of different age groups gave impressive portrayals.
Another impressive production that marked the fest was ‘Sati Savitri’.
The sequences of how Savitri follows Yama through godly lands were technically well handled.
It was good team work that all the Surabhi artistes displayed that won audience appreciation.
Verse rendition too was impressive.
