A gang of five teenage youths bashed a 50-year-old Indian tourist and robbed him of 75,000 baht in cash and his mobile phone in Pattaya City, Chon Buri province, about 1am on Thursday.

Narandr Rajoo appeared confused when officials found him on Soi 7 off a road along Pattaya beach in Nong Prue sub-district of Bang Lamung district.

After receiving first aid for a cut in his head and a broken nose, the Indian said that robbers punched and knocked him down while he was walking back to his hotel. They stole a mixture of cash in Thai currency and dollars worth about 75,000 baht, and his phone.

Witness Wipada Saengthong said five black-clad young men who regularly hang around the beach area attacked the tourist. One of the five punched him, knocking him down, and took the cash and phone from his pants pockets, while the other four stood lookout.

Locals told police the teenagers regularly drank on the beach, extorted money from passers-by and assaulted those who resisted. They identified the leader of the gang as Aof or "Teen To" (Big Foot). Police said they would find him for questioning.
