‘AAP govt. misleading people on fund transfer’

April 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A day after the Delhi government released Rs. 226.66 crore for payment of salaries, especially for the sanitation workers, in the North and East municipal corporations, North Delhi Mayor Yogendra Chandolia on Wednesday accused the Arvind Kejriwal Government of “misleading the people as it has not released any fund for paying salaries to the sanitation workers”.

“So far the Delhi Government has released only Rs. 150 crore under the education head for the North Corporation. As the fund is under the non-plan schemes it can be used only for education-related works like paying salaries to teachers, maintenance of schools etc. The funds released are the 25 percent share and the first instalment of the Corporation’s funds under the education head for 2015,” Mr. Chandolia told reporters.

A statement from the Chief Minister’s office on Tuesday said: “Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on April 1...directed the department of finance to immediately release funds so that the MCD safai karamcharis could be paid their unpaid salaries.”

The Mayor alleged that the Delhi Government is trying to take undue credit of helping out the civic body as the funds released under the education head is the right of the Corporation. “Besides, the total fund to be released for education has also been reduced by the Delhi Government from Rs. 620 crore in 2014-15 to Rs. 513.49 crore in the outlay budget for 2015-16,” he added.

The Mayor alleged that both the present and the previous Delhi governments have been doing petty politics and have always sidelined the interest of safai karamcharis and people of Delhi.

“The State government has failed to release the Corporation’s global share of Rs. 695.29 crore for the last three financial years. Rather, they have deducted the amount as loan repayment,” he said.
