BJP leader, who filmed boozing cops, gets bail

Phagwara: A day after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a cop, BJP general secretary of Kapurthala Gurdeep Singh Deepa was granted bail by a local court on Wednesday.
Deepa had reportedly filmed two head constables boozing in Satnampura police station on Monday night with a person against whom a complaint of financial fraud was pending for an inquiry.
The BJP leader had complained to SHO Joginder Pal, who failed to take any action and asked Deepa to leave the police station.
The issue led to a late night drama on Monday as several BJP workers and residents of Hadiabad locality gathered at the police station following an argument between SHO and the leader.
On Tuesday, Phagwara police arrested Deepa for allegedly assaulting a constable on duty. Police also booked his supporters who had blocked National Highway-I on Tuesday night to protest against his arrest.
