PUNE: The safety audit of all the major bus terminals in the Pune will be completed in a month’s time, former chairman and managing director of PMPML, Shrikar Pardeshi has said. The audit will be conducted by an expert committee.
Directives for the safety audit were issued after two persons lost their lives in a mishap at the Katraj bus terminal last month.
The expert committee has been given a mandate to examine the geography of the bus terminal, and suggest measures if any civil works need to be undertaken.
Pardeshi, who left charge on Tuesday, said that of the 20 proposed bus bays to be developed, six have already been formed. PMPML is working with the Pune traffic police for creating the bus bays. The six bus bays have been developed at Balgandharva Rangmandir, Deccan, SNDT, University corner, Simla office and Dhayari bus stop.
Citing the successful example of the bus bay near district collectorate, Pardeshi said that more bus bays need to be created. Barricades will be put up so that the bus bays remain intact.
PMPML, he said, will have new destination boards in which only the route number and the destination will be displayed. Earlier, the starting point of the bus route was also displayed in the destination board. Pardeshi said 60 % of the work on new destination boards has been completed. PMPML has also completed all minor repair works of buses. Meanwhile, PMPML on Wednesday launched a new website – pmpml.org with updated information.
