Then and now – Hum Saath-Saath Hain

If there’s any film that has justified its title to the fullest, it is Hum Saath-Saath Hain : We Stand United, directed by Sooraj Barjatya. An out-and-out family entertainer, the film gave us one very important lesson – the family that eats together and prays together, stays together! And with an elaborate star cast which includes Barjatya favourites like Alok Nath and Salman Khan,  the film also brought together big names like Tabu, Saif Ali Khan and Karisma Kapoor all under one roof – literally. With such a varied cast, we wonder where each of these actor is, almost 16 years since the release of the film.

Mohnish Behl

Mohnish Behl

This bade bhaiyya in the film was the epitome of kindness and goodness and served as an example of an ideal son. But after playing the adopted son, Vivek, Mohnish didn’t make it big in films. He played small roles in films like Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, LOC: Kargil and Vivaah and forayed into television with shows like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kuch Toh Log Kahenge. His last outing was a miniscule part in Salman Khan’s Jai Ho.

Tabu

This powerhouse actress played the docile senior bahu Sadhana, who was the perfect match to Vivek, supporting him despite his handicap and being by his side in the toughest times. Since then, Tabu’s career has grown leaps and bounds, both in the Hindi film industry as well as in the South, where she has continued to do films in Telegu, Tamil and Malayalam. Tabu has even made her mark internationally, playing pivotal roles in Mira Nair’s The Namesake in Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. Though selective with her films, this National Award winning actress has given a number of powerful performances, notably in Astitva, Chandni Bar, Maqbool and most recently, Haider, for which she even won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female). And we can’t for her to blow us away yet again with her upcoming film, Drishyam.

Salman Khan

Salman Khan

A lovable and obedient son, Prem is the apple of his mother’s eye. He’s not only a compassionate character but also a charitable one. And the Salman Khan we know today isn’t far from that. Aside from his comedic performances in films like Judwaa to action-packed films like Dabangg, Jai Ho, Kick and even more serious roles in films like Khamoshi and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Salman has more recently become the force behind the philanthropic organization, Being Human. But his association with director Sooraj Barjatya is as strong as ever and they’re currently shooting together for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, releasing this Diwali. Having made a strong foothold back in 1999, Salman is the biggest superstar of the country in 2015.
