The Bandon Transportation and Public Realm Enhancement Plan will be launched on April 16 at the local town hall and will examine the impact and advantages of public sewerage and water schemes.
JB Barry and Partners and Systra Ltd will brief elected councillors before a public forum from 4pm-8pm.
County mayor Alan Coleman, said while there had been delays in planned flood relief and sewerage schemes, it was important to get the public consultation process rolling before the projects are completed.
“Bandon is going to go through fierce upheaval in the next couple of years, there’s no doubt about that,” Mr Coleman said, “but it will be worth it when everything is done and this public consultation plan is completed.”
An OPW flood relief scheme was put on hold after a legal challenge but the proposed action has since been dropped. “The OPW has now gone to tender on the project but, unfortunately, I don’t see a contractor working on the river this summer,” the mayor said.
The council, meanwhile, is developing the plan which will also determine the transport interventions required to resolve existing traffic and transport issues.

The study will make recommendations on the short- to medium-term on what interventions may be required to improve the town centre public realm for residents and visitors alike. “It is an important opportunity for the public to inform the strategy and to let us know their views,” a council spokesman said.
Anyone unable to attend but who would still like to participate in the consultation process, can email comments to Tim Delaney (tdelaney@jbbarry.ie), or write to Mr Delaney at JB Barry and Partners Ltd, Benchmark Business Centre, 3 Eastgate Rd, Cork.
The public can also log onto Cork County Council’s website (www.corkcoco.ie) for updates.
Closing date for submissions is May 15.
