April 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - MADURAI:

Jayanthi mahotsavam of Sri Lakshmi Varaha Perumal is to be performed at Varaha Nagar on Madurai-Melur Road on Thursday.

According to temple trustee N. Seshadri, the mahotsavam would commence with a ‘Suprabatham Viswaroopam’ at 7.30 a.m., followed by Sandhi Thiruvarathanam and a homam. At noon, Swami Niyamananda of Vivekananda College, Tiruvedagam, would offer blessings to the devotees, following which there would be a grand ‘alangara saartrumurai’.

The temple, situated at Ayilangudi near Maruti Hospital close to the famous Yoga Narasimhar Temple in the southwest and Tirumohur temple in the east, thus forming a golden triangle of Perumal temples, completed two years. According to the legend, Varaha Avatara was to rescue the earth from deep muddy waters and subsequently from the evil clutches of ‘Hiranyaksha’, the golden-eyed demon.
