Three youth climb mobile tower, attempt suicide

Three youth were arrested on Monday when they climbed up a mobile tower in Yercaud and threatened to commit suicide.

The arrested were: S. Vijay (27), M. Nandhu (29), and P. Prabhu (28), all from Erumapatty in Namakkal district.

They are involved in installing mobile towers.

They said that they had not received their salary for the last several months.

Their attempts to reach the contractor too went in vain, as his mobile number was remaining switched off. They came to Yercaud and after getting drunk decided to commit suicide by jumping off a mobile tower.

After two hours of persuasion by the police, Vijay came down. Officials climbed up the tower and pacified the other two too.

The police registered a case under Sections 309 (attempted suicide), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 506 (i) r/w 4 (1) j of Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937.

They were produced before V. Puviyarasu, Judicial Magistrate V, who remanded them in judicial custody.
