Meanwhile, the manager of the lodge on Tuesday recorded his statement with the D N Nagar police. In his statement, the manager has allegedly told the police that Surve checked into the lodge at 5 am on Monday. He reportedly had a box of mangoes with him, and told the manager to keep the mangoes with him, and send them up when his female friend reached the lodge to visit him. Around 15 minutes later, the manager heard a scream from Surve’s room and rushed to investigate.
“The manager told us that he saw the 27-year-old victim screaming as she had been attacked by Surve. He then saw Surve on the floor with his wrist slit with the same knife,” said an officer with the DN Nagar police station. The manager then informed the police about the incident.
“Surve had attacked the woman after a fight as the woman had got married and shifted to Virar after severing ties with him. Surve wanted her to leave her husband and elope with him but she had refused to leave her husband after which Surve stabbed her in fit of rage. Subsequently, due to fear of arrest, he tried to kill himself as well,” the officer added.
