A bee among a group of preschoolers and a dance routine by the First Lady made for an interesting White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday.
US President Barack Obama's reading of Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak to a group of children took an anarchic turn when a bee flew into the young crowd, prompting loud screams.
"It's OK, guys," the President said as his previously calm preschooler audience erupted in chaos.
"Bees are good. They won't land on you."
Unfortunately, President Obama's young charges would not be calmed that easily.
"They sting and they're scary!" one kid is heard to cry, leaving President Obama to unconvincingly reply, "They won't sting you. They'll be OK."
The President decided to continue his reading of the children's classic over his audience's screams, jokingly reprimanding the kids for not adopting the rough mentality of the book's "wild things".
"You're supposed to be wild things!" he said. "You're not supposed to be scared of bees when you're a wild thing."
 
Luckily, there were no bees present on stage when the President's wife Michelle performed a dance to Mark Ronson's Uptown Funk.
The dance, which was choreographed to celebrate the fifth anniversary of her Let's Move campaign against childhood obesity in America, saw the First Lady hip thrust and clap alongside a host of alumni from the American version of So You Think You Can Dance.
She has previously performed the dance on The Ellen Show.
 
Over 35,000 guests attended the White House's annual Easter Egg Roll on Monday.
Now in its 137th year, the event includes a program of storytelling sessions by celebrities (this year's readers included American Ballet Theatre soloist Misty Copeland and the cast of Sesame Street) and live music performances, as well as the egg roll itself, in which children race to push an egg through the grass with a spoon.
Previous recent attendees include Julianne Moore, Justin Bieber and the cast of Glee.
