Ashoka launches observatory under NASA educator’s guidance

The Ashoka Universal School inaugurated its astronomical observatory (Ashoka Universal School Astronomical Observatory) under the guidance of engineer Apurva Jakhdi, a NASA space educator, space ambassador and also a member of the UN space generation advisory council.

NASHIK: The Ashoka Universal School inaugurated its astronomical observatory (Ashoka Universal School Astronomical Observatory) under the guidance of engineer Apurva Jakhdi, a NASA space educator, space ambassador and also a member of the UN space generation advisory council.
Jakhdi, along with astronomer and writer Ramakant Deshpande, and members of Kalpana Chawala Youth Foundation completed the honours.
The prime purpose of the observatory is to generate scientific awareness, promote access to new knowledge and portray a modern image of science and scientists. Other events included unveiling of the observatory logo followed by a sky observation session, in which 200 students received hands-on experience on observing the sky through a telescope. The school has installed an advanced telescope, along with a DSLR camera in the observatory. The observatory’s strategic plan has established three focus areas: Technology and skills, science and research, culture and society. Jhakdi also gave a presentation about the telescope Hubble, which is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary on April 24.
AUS students bring laurels: The pre-primary students of Ashoka Universal School excelled at the 2nd open district road champ roller skating championship, 2015 organized by the Nashik District Roller Skating Association. The team comprised Moiz Khan, Anusha Karwa, Bhagyeshree Dharankar, Ananya Parakh, Jeet Nikam, Pehal Agrawal, Utkarsh Mantri, Sia Ramnani, Sia Wadhwa,Vibhor Gujrathi, Ayushi Shetty, Muskan Jaisinghani, Akshat Marathe, Neev Dewani, Honisha Samnani, Yatika Bhutda, Tanishka Parmar, Tanush Bajaj and Pratham Bhardwaj.
Students of St Lawrence felicitated: The sports prize distribution ceremony was held at the St Lawrence High School and Junior College recently. The winning students were felicitated and the others were encouraged to put in more effort the next time. Sub-inspector Ravindra Sahare of Ambad police station was the chief guest for the function of grade I. Managing trustee and founder-principal Summan Datta and administrator Col. Vijay Datta were the chief guests for the occasion of grade II. The students were presented with medals and certificates.
Prize distribution at Silver Oak Universal School: The office-bearers and parents and teachers association members at Silver Oak Universal School distributed prizes to the students who excelled in scholastic and non-scholastic activities. The event included dance and music by students of different age-groups.
Rasbihari students excel: Smit Toshniwal, a grade 8 student of the Rasbihari International School won the third place in the national junior badminton championship 2015.The competition was organized by Sara foundation and PN Metalife last month in Delhi. Smit beat Maya Singh from Delhi by 21-9, 21-5(2-0), Muskan Jun by 21-7,21-9(2-0) and Laxmi Priyanka from Tamil Nadu by 19-21,21-16,21-9(2-1). In the semi-finals Smit lost against Unnati Bist from Uttarakhad.

Subodhi Kamble, a grade 7 student, won the third position at the state level western sports dance competition organized by the Nashik district sports office. This competition was organized for the first time at the state level last month in Venutai Sanskrutik Sabhagruha, Karad when24 students from eight divisions were selected to participate in the final round.
Juice day at GVIS: SM Education Foundation’s Global Vision International School celebrated ‘Juice Day’ with the pre-primary section. Teachers explained the pre-primary kids how easy it is to prepare the lemon juice. Many stalls were arranged and the atmosphere of a restaurant was created in the school and students prepared lemon juice under the observation of teachers. Students were also taught how to serve the clients. Coordinator Sushma Jadhav explained the health benefits of lemon juice.
Wisdom High bids adieu to grade X and XII: Wisdom High International School had organised a get-together to bid farewell to the X and XII graders of ISC, ICSE and IGCSE amidst feelings of joy and nostalgia. The event hosted on the lawns of the school witnessed enthralling nostalgic moments. In the personality pageant, Shourya Gandhi from grade X was adjudged the prince while Shreya Lad bagged the crown of the princess; from the XIIth grade Charukeshi Narayan was crowned princess and Ankit Mathur the prince. The student of the year award was conferred on Samvida Phatak and Nikhil Khairnar for grade X, while from grade XII Rutuja Patil bagged the student of the year award.
Activities at Fravashi: A singing competition was held for the pre-primary and KG sections of Fravashi Academy. The students participated in large numbers and presented melodious songs. Anagha Joshi and Aditi Joshi were the judges for the event.
Pre-primary students spent some time with the gardener of the school, who along with the teachers, introduced them to a variety of trees and explained their importance in human life. They were shown practically how to plant and care for the saplings. They were also encouraged to water the plants with the help of the teacher.
