Demanding potable drinking water for Gurusanagi village of Shahapur taluk in Yadgir district from the Bhima, residents staged a protest with empty pots in the Bhima and on the river bank here on the outskirts of Yadgir, on Monday.
They said that they had been forced to drink contaminated water as the pipeline, laid from the Bhima to the village, was damaged and it was not repaired by the concerned gram panchayat officials despite reminders.
Shahapur tahasildar Ramesh Babu Halu, who visited the spot, tried to convince the protesters requesting them to come out from the river, but to no avail. Later, the residents withdrew the protest after Chief Executive Officer of the Yadgir Zilla Panchayat P. Sunil Kumar rushed to the spot and assured them that all possible actions to provide drinking water would be taken.
