KARGIL, Apr 6: The Deputy Commissioner, Kargil accompanied by the Senior Superintendent of Police today visited the Drass Sub-Division and interacted with the general public to take stock of their grievances.
The DC and the SSP first visited Matayan on the National Highway where they took stock of the snow clearance and road opening operation by the Border Roads Organization. The Deputy Commissioner was informed by senior officers of the Border Roads Organization that road connectivity of Kargil with the Kashmir valley will be established by the last week of April.
The Deputy Commissioner, Kargil was apprised that the road opening operation this year was especially hazardous due to unusually heavy snowfall and frequent avalanches.
It is pertinent to mention here that the DC and the SSP were held up at Matayan due to an avalanche that blocked their return route to Drass. The officers thereafter held a public meeting at Drass where they interacted with the civil society.
The DC took stock of the availability of essential supplies and services in Drass and assured the people that the administration will do everything to make sure that public service delivery is flawless.
The major issues that were brought to the attention of the DC were the acute shortage of power and chronic absenteeism of Government officials from the station. The DC promised to take stern action against the absent officers and improve the power situation.
