Four days after a family in Bareilly cremated their 17-year-old daughter, the girl’s elder brother has filed an FIR against his father and four others alleging murder.
Station House Officer Nawabganj police station, Jawahar Lal said while the father had initially claimed his daughter “died of an illness”, the police, upon visiting the house on Monday, learnt about the girl having committed suicide by hanging herself.
Her bother Vijaypal, who has been staying in Uttarakhand’s Rudrapur district for the past six years with his wife and children, the SHO said, is yet to give a reason behind his sister’s alleged murder. He told the police that he came to know about the murder through his uncle Rohan Singh who lives close to his father’s house in Bareilly.

The father, Bhagwan Das, on the other hand, too has filed an application with the police claiming that while his daughter had died of an illness, some of his opponents in the village provoked his son to file a case against him. He also claimed that his son never visited him or other family members in the last six years.
The SHO said that they visited the Badagaon village on Monday after the case was registered and the preliminary investigation revealed that the girl had hanged herself.
Circle Officer, Nawabganj area, Naresh Agarwal said the girl died on Friday and his father conducted the final rites on the same day.
During preliminary inquiry, it has come to light that the girl was involved in a love affair with a local youth belonging to the same community and that her father was reportedly against it. They are verifying the information to probe into the allegation against her father, he said.
