Farmer ends life in Jaluan after crop damage
Jhansi: A middle-aged farmer committed suicide in Jalaun district on Sunday by jumping in front of a train. A suicide note has been recovered from him which read, “I am committing suicide by a government vehicle since I am disturbed because of my spoiled crops”.
The short note was written on a piece of paper signed by the deceased, police said.The incident took place in Mragya village under Kalpi police station area.
Reports said the deceased, Jitendra Kumar, who owned a small farm land was under depression due to continuous rain and damage to crop. When it rained on Sunday also, he could not stand to the mental pressure and took the drastic step, police said. As per his fellow villagers, Jitendra had taken loan and was worried for its repayment as he was relying on the crop which got completely destroyed. Despite repeated efforts, district magistrate (DM) of Jalaun Ram Ganesh did not take the call. Jaluan additional superintendent of police (ASP) Shakeel Ahmed said, “Police have filled the panch-nama and the body has been sent for postmortem.” He declined comment on the issue of Kumar’s loan and damaged crop saying it was the jurisdiction of the district administration.
