Around the world with Kannada music

Music composer Arjun Janya is readying his team for its first-ever world musical tour. Known as the junior AR Rahman in Sandalwood, the composer with a pop-star’s hair style will take a 15-member team across the world, including the US and UK.
The concert tour will start in September. As of now locations in US and UK are finalised and a few more in Middle East are to be added. The tour has a special segment called the “Tribute to Legends”. This is not only his first international tour, but also the first time that he will be rendering songs of legendary singers of yesteryear. During his previous shows, Janya would sing only songs from movies he has composed music for.
Hemanth , Samitha Malnad , Anuradha Bhat , Archana Ravi , Akanksha , Indu Nagaraj , Nakul , Santosh and Chinmayi are also taking part in the tour. As of now 15 members of the team have managed to get visas and the final list of singers is yet to be finalised. However, dancers from Sandalwood will not be part of the trip. Arjun says that organisers are making arrangements for local dancers in each of the locations. To make the show special and spectacular, more than 50 musicians will be performing live on stage with 10 singers and other dancers. Three shows each in UK and US have been finalised.
Speaking to Bangalore Mirror about the event, Arjun Janya said, “The entire team is working very hard for this show. While selecting songs for the show, we had long discussions with our singers and musicians. It was a tough task to select the songs. This time we have added an episode called “Tribute to Legends” in which songs will be selected from legendary actors like Dr Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan and others. This will be the first time for me to sing songs from the movies for which music is composed by other composers. Many of us today never got the opportunity to work with these legends. So this is the time to give them our tribute.”
Arjun Janya is one of the most sought-after performers on stage from Sandalwood. In the last one year, he has given as many as 20 stage shows. “I started performing in musical events after the success of Victory and fans demanded the song Khaali Quarter in every show,” he says.
Starting in 2006 with Autograph Please, Janya has composed music for over 50 films in less than a decade. Some of his popular films include Birugaali, Kempe Gowda, Rambo, Varadanayaka, Jayammana Maga, Victory, Supero Ranga and Raja Rajendra.
