Lucknowites aren’t exactly known to be the punctual sorts, but this event clearly stood out. For when acclaimed writer-lyricist-poet Gulzar took to the stage at the event Nazmon ki Chain Mein - An Evening with Gulzar, organised in association with The Times of India, at the exact scheduled time, it already was a packed house. People of all age groups listened keenly as Gulzar shared anecdotes from his journey in Bollywood, and also read out some of his favourite nazmein.The event started with Ajay Jain welcoming Gulzar and
Salim Arif to the dias, after which the two engaged in a tete-a-tete, and shared anecdotes about the legendary lyricist’s life as a lyricist and a writer. Among the ones that stood out was how the song Musafir Hoon Yaaron from Parichay was conceptualized. Gulzar sahab shared how RD Burman just sent him a tune and asked him to write lyrics to it. Burman and Gulzar then drove around the entire night, and the product in the morning was the song Musafir Hoon Yaaron.
Gulzar then went on to read out his nazmein. Interspersed with English and pure Urdu, the poetry received much applause by all present in the audience.
The event concluded with a book-signing session, wherein the veteran lyricist was surrounded by his fans belonging to all age groups. He obliged everyone with his autograph, even smiling for a selfie or two with his fans.
