Ross School of Medicine Club Raises $6,000 for Dominica Fire and Ambulance

Ross Emergency Medicine Association (REMA), one of the largest clubs at the Ross University School of Medicine, recently appointed Joshua Sayers to be their Community Service Liaison. In just a few short months, Sayers outreach to the Dominican community has already proven to be substantially valuable and offers the promise of beneficial, long-term relationships.

Sayers, a paramedic from Ohio who initially coordinated REMA’s diabetes clinic, is fortifying educational bridges between the club and Dominican emergency services. REMA’s many former paramedics, nurses and respiratory therapists lead at least six skills labs each semester in which Dominica Fire and Ambulance participated for the first time this year.

“REMA also decided to make Dominica Fire and Ambulance Service the beneficiary of our fundraising efforts,” Sayers divulged. “We decided to use donations to provide equipment and supplies for their ambulances and first responders.”

Through t-shirt sales, the cost of membership and lab fees, REMA raised $6,000 XCD this semester. These funds will provide Dominica Fire and Ambulance with duty-free supplies so they can better respond to the emergencies.

Unfortunately, Sayers cannot stay in Dominica forever, but there are two community liaison trainees ready to continue his legacy, Gilda-Rae Grell and Ernest Rin.

“I’ll be leaving the island soon,” Sayers said. “I want this program to continue long after I’m gone.”

Skerrit has turned the country into a “Give me” nation, where people always have to feeling sorry for us while a few are feasting on our resources, always on their private trip on us. Anyways thank you Ross for coming to our assistance. The last time I checked you were a school from the USA, and not from China or Venezuela, even some politicians always have some negative things to say about the US. While we all appreciate your kind gesture, for the good of Dominica we would encourage Ross to invest in their own Fire/ Ambulance service which would help both nationals as well as Ross, because if their were a fire or emergency at Ross, the building would be consumed before that one truck and ambulance Skerrit has in Possie finds its way to Ross.
