ZIMBABWE are scheduled to begin their quest for a place at next year’s African Nations Championship with a preliminary round clash against minnows Comoros. According to the draw conducted at the CAF Headquarters in Egypt yesterday, the Warriors will host the Indian islanders over the weekend of June 19-21 in the first leg and then travel for the reverse fixture scheduled for July 3-5.

If they manage to progress from the preliminary round Zimbabwe, who reached the semi-finals of the previous tournament, will face the winner between Botswana and Lesotho in the first round in October.

The finals of the CHAN tournament will be hosted by Rwanda next year.

The draw was done based on the zonal representation of the national associations affiliated to CAF.

Forty-two teams will be engaged in the qualifiers that will produce the 15 teams to join the hosts Rwanda for the final tournament scheduled for January 16 -February 7 2016.

CAF general secretary Hicham El Amrani conducted the draw assisted by CAF second vice-president, Almamy Kabele Camara, who is also president of organising committee of the CHAN tournament.

Zimbabwe finished fourth at the last edition of the tournament held in South Africa last year under Ian Gorowa when they lost a third place play-off to West African giants Nigeria.

CHAN is a tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues.

Meanwhile, a three member ZIFA delegation left the country yesterday for Egypt to attend the 37th CAF Ordinary General Assembly set for tomorrow in Cairo.
