Though the Opposition parties have been targeting the decision of the Aam Aadmi Party Government to launch the anti-corruption helpline number, supporters of the party seem totally convinced that Arvind Kejriwal would deliver on his promise of making Delhi a corruption-free city.

While AAP supporters, who had turned up in impressive numbers from all parts of the city, toed Mr. Kejriwal’s line in highlighting the prevailing corruption in agencies like the municipal corporations, Delhi Police and the DDA, other also talked about the necessity of curbing graft in some of the key Departments of the Delhi Government like transport and food supply offices that issue ration cards.

Incidentally, Mr. Kejriwal’s dummy complaint while launching the helpline was also related to a food inspector demanding bribe for issuing ration card.

“The impact is already there, but still touts are active in the transport authority. But I am sure, with the government increasing the strength and funds of the ACB, they would be able to deliver on the promises,” said Dhullu Sharma, a resident of Haiderpur.

With the Chief Minister seeking people’s cooperation in punishing the corrupt, some AAP supporters appeared eager to conduct sting operations against the corrupt.

“With our MLA, we have already started conducting sting operations to expose gambling dens in our area. Now, we are also planning to form a core team of volunteers who would take the initiative forward in exposing officials of the MCD and other agencies,” said Chetan Sharma, a resident of Kirari.

On the impact of the AAP Government in its second avatar in curbing corruption, a party supporter from Vishawas Nagar said “it was too early to make an assessment”.

“I have supported the anti-corruption movement both physically and mentally. I am still hopeful that this government would deliver on its promises,” said Shivaji Dasgupta, a resident of Patparganj, who was present at the venue along with his wife Arpita Dasgupta.
