Recognitions and awards are important to encourage people to continue their work, according to Athimoolam Naidu, chairman, Augustan Group of Companies, U.S.
He was delivering the acceptance speech at a function here on Sunday in which the K.G. Foundation conferred him with the ‘Dynamic Indian of the Millennium’ award.
Mr. Athimoolam, whose firm had an annual turnover of Rs. 160 crore, also recollected his humble beginnings and said that ambition was vital for a person to succeed. He is also involved in Tamil association and Venkateswara Temple in Chicago.
R. Vijayakumhar, managing trustee, S.N.R. Sons Charitable Trust, said that award was a recognition of the social work done by the doctors and staff of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital.
Ragavan Dhandapany, vice-president (Sales and Marketing), Computed Tomography, Siemens AG, Germany, said that accountability, affordability and availability were important in healthcare sector along with awareness.
KG Hospital chairman G. Bakthavathsalam said that the KG Foundation was set up 60 years ago to carry out social activities.
Awardees
The awards were also presented to Manish R Pandya, head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, CU Shah Medical College, Gujarat, Ilangovan Veerappan, chief nephrologist, K.G. Hospital, Kamal D. Shah, co-founder and director, Nephroplus, Hyderabad, Vikram Vuppala, co-founder and director of BD Nephroplus, Hyderabad and Sandeep Gudibanda, founder and CEO, Nephroplus, Hyderabad.
D. Shantharam, vice-chancellor, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, who was also one of the award winners, will be given the award later as he was unable to come.
