If you are traveling to Somnath by road, a two km stretch will give you headache. This stretch is located near Supasi village close to Veraval town.
The entire 127 km stretch of Somnath-Jetpur national highway is nearly completed barring Junagadh bypass, but on stretch near Supasi village which is located at 10 km distance from Veraval is in poor shape.
The reason is land acquisition related troubles. The National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) had to make payment to 97 persons for land acquisition in village Supasi. Only 3 of 97 are yet to paid money. But there has been dispute in these 3 cases, following which the contractor has left this 2 km stretch.
Daily thousands of vehicles pass through this stretch to reach Veraval/Somnath. Solution to 2 km trouble is awaited.
Meanwhile, construction of Junagadh bypass was pending due to litigation in Gujarat High Court by farmers who were backed and encouraged by foreign funded NGOs. However, recently the High Court has lifted stay. Construction of bypass may resume soon.
