Murder in hostel: police off to Agumbe

April 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

The Bengaluru Police investigating the murder of Gautami (17), who was allegedly shot dead in the hostel by a college attendant in Kadugodi near Whitefield, are finding it difficult to obtain information from the accused, Mahesh (38). A team is visiting Agumbe to find out the source of the weapon used to murder the girl.

Police sources said that Mahesh, who allegedly shot dead Gautami and injured her friend, Shirisha, in the hostel on the premises of Pragathi Residential School on March 31, has not divulged any substantial information to the investigators. “It has been four days since the incident, but Mahesh has not provided any lead to the probe. He has been dodging questions,” said a senior officer.

Based on the information provided by him, a team of police visited Sunkadakatte, Marathalli and Hosakote in search of the person who reportedly sold the weapon to Mahesh.

The team has now gone to Agumbe in Shivamogga, his home town, to ascertain the source of weapon.

“Mahesh is an introvert and a hard nut to crack. He is not only dodging questions posed but is also diverting the track of the investigation,” the official added.

Initially Mahesh had told investigators that he had purchased the 9mm country-made pistol at K.R. Puram Railway Station from a person from Kalaburgi. “He even said that he had bought the weapon from three different places, all of which turned out to be false,” the official added. City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi also acknowledged that that Mahesh was giving confusing statements.

The team will find out the source of the weapon used to murder 17-year-old Gautami
