KANPUR: A woman approached Rajpur police in Kanpur Dehat on Thursday and told cops that a gang of human traffickers wanted to sell her. A case has been registered. Two men were arrested.
The 20-year-old woman, a native of Ajitmal area of Auraiya district had sought monetary help from Jeevan Lal Nishad in order to get her brother, languishing in Etawah jail on charges of murder, released.
On Thursday, the woman was taken from Auraiya to Rajpur area of Kanpur Dehat district by Nishad and his accomplice Ram Karan on the pretext of arranging money for her. The woman said that she was forcibly made to 'accompany' strangers, possibly members of a gang of traffickers, the police said. Sensing trouble, the woman raised an alarm. The residents of the area gathered there. They took the woman to Rajpur police station.
Ram Karan managed to escape. Nishad and Baba Rajaram Mali were arrested. "We have informed the woman’s family members in Auraiya. A team has been sent in search of Ram Karan," SHO Rajpur J P Yadav said.
